The recent history of the architecture of interiors and design has found in bars restaurants a medium for the free expression of new languages and materials and unusual forms. Since the eighties there has been an extraordinary world-wide growth in leisure premises seeking an original and theatrical atmosphere, and this has been an extremely stimulating source of inspiration for architects and designers. The present work offers a careful selection made by a team of experts, presenting recently opened bars and restaurants designed by architects of international renown such as David Chipperfield, Alfredo Arribas, Herman Czech and Waro Kishi. The systematic and highly visual presentation provides a clear panorama of the diversity of languages and techniques that are currently applied to this field of design. Each project is explained in detail and analysed by means of plentiful graphic material, with all the main plans, details and sketches provided by each designer, combined with a large selection of full-colour photographs. The texts give details of the construction solutions, the finishes and the new techniques, and explains the profound intentions that guided the designers in carrying out their work.
